How I Built My Portfolio Website (Spoiler: AI Did Most of the Heavy Lifting)
The honest story of building a modern portfolio using Lovable and Cursor - no gatekeeping, just the real process of going from idea to deployed website.

The Starting Point
Let's be real - I didn't want to spend weeks building a portfolio from scratch. I had projects to showcase, not endless hours to tweak CSS. So I took the smart route: I used AI tools.
Started with Lovable and honestly? It was a game-changer. I gave it structured prompts about what I wanted - clean design, dark theme, project showcase, blog section. The kind of stuff that would take me days to set up manually.
Planning the Structure
Before jumping in, I actually talked to ChatGPT about which sections make sense for a portfolio. Hero section? Obviously. Projects? Must-have. But what about a blog? Skills visualization? Journey timeline?
Those conversations helped me figure out what actually matters to someone visiting a portfolio. Not just copying what everyone else does, but thinking through what tells MY story best.
The Cursor Phase
Once Lovable got me 80% there, I imported everything into Cursor. This is where things got fun. Manual tweaks, functionality updates, making the UI feel just right - all the stuff that needed a human touch.
Cursor's AI pair programming is wild. It's like having a senior dev looking over your shoulder, but one that never gets tired of your questions. Changed components, fixed bugs, added features I didn't even plan for initially.
What I Actually Built
Here's what ended up in the final version:
- React 18 + TypeScript - Type safety saved me from so many bugs
- Smooth animations - Because first impressions matter
- Blog with markdown support - You're reading it right now!
- Project filtering - Makes finding specific work super easy
- Dark mode - Because it's 2025 and people expect it
- Fully responsive - Works perfectly on phone, tablet, desktop
The Reality Check
Did I build everything from scratch? Nope. Did I write every line of code myself? Definitely not. But did I learn a ton about React, TypeScript, and modern web development? Absolutely.
Using AI tools doesn't make you less of a developer. It makes you a smarter one. You focus on the creative decisions, the user experience, the stuff that actually matters. The tools handle the boilerplate.
If you're thinking about building a portfolio, don't overthink it. Start with what works (Lovable is great for this), then customize it to make it yours. The perfect portfolio is the one you actually finish and put online.
